An Introduction to Peak Parenting

Featured

Peak Parenting is owned and managed by Melanie Taylor, Parent, Blogger, Social Worker, Educator, and Writer.

This blog is devoted to educating and supporting parents and their children on the issues regarding Peak Oil and how it has impacts the current economic collapse and the daily challenges families are encountering. Many families today are caring for their children as well as their ailing parents. As the world economy changes, and the “Great Recession” spirals out of control many families are making the best choices they can to help reduce the stress they feel from the financial problems the are facing.

Families are struggling with issues of hunger, unemployment, homelessness, and the lack of medical services. Parents fear bankruptcy, foreclosure, the loss of health benefits, and ongoing school budget cuts. They also face the fear of losing their pensions, and are faced with the real possibility that Social Security will not be available as they enter retirement age. Parents are faced with the real fear that they will not be able to see their children have the opportunity to attend college. These are only some of the issues you could have heard about as you wait with your children at various events. There was a time that these topics were almost taboo and today financial concerns are talked about openly at local schools, places of worship, playgrounds and sports events. Together we will explore the ways in which families can address these uncharted waters of financial insecurity and how families can create, share and access resources.

My interests have been in Peak oil; the Housing Crisis, the Energy Crisis and the Current Economic Collapse that is impacting the World Economy. I intend to educate myself and others about living a more green lifestyle and adapting to the quick, ongoing changes that families face. Most importantly the Peak Parenting Blog will help educate people in how to prepare and access resources needed for this economic transition.

This blog will address co-creating communities that contain people who are conscious of the current social and economic changes and creating the kind of world that allows each person to feel supported and sane.

I work with families and am aware that more families than ever before are in need of help. These families are faced with the challenge of navigating the Social Service Programs for the first time in their life. Families are reaching out to others looking for help only to be faced with the reality that they are not alone.  As so many people are in the same situation and are seeking support as well. It is important to note that this creates an opportunity to develop an informal networking community that allows families to help one another.  As resources shrink, budgets are cut, and families seek help. This will be the most useful form of support available.

This blog was created to help parents and their children open a dialogue around the different choices each family must make to navigate the increased costs of living. There will be an unfolding, a new way of life and with support, education and awareness parents will be able to support one another and their children embrace the coming changes.

There will be much more to come as this is just the beginning. Take Care.

A wonderful article.
